Mango's newsletter photoHi Folks,

This is Mango. I wanted to write to you this month about a wonderful visitor I had to my kitty hostel in my front yard. He stayed only a few days but was full of wonderful wisdom about what we Cats n Dogs can teach our Humans. Since our Humans teach us a lot – here’s a way you can help them.

So furry friends, here are 20 pearls of wisdom you can teach your Humans for their health:

1

Focus on one task at a time. How many of you go for a refreshing walk with your Human, only to play ‘second fiddle’ to their cell phone? When what you really want is to enjoy nature, the day, the exercise and a little conversation with them.

4

Stick to a schedule. Max chimed in on this one: “We furry pets thrive on our schedules. Get up, take care of business outside, eat breakfast, check on our Human’s breakfast just in case we might get tidbits or a plate to lick, one more trip outside before morning nap, etc.” He takes medicine twice a day – and always tells his Mom when it’s time.

If you love someone, show it! A kind word, a snuggle, a tail wag… goes a long way towards happiness

10

Wag. Smile and be grateful!

11

Don’t hold a grudge. Life’s too short; need we say more? Sometimes this is hard to do – see numbers 10 & 9

16

Stretch often. This goes with taking a walk – it’s good for your body. Watch your feline friends, they know how to do this.

17

Drink water. Especially during these HOT days, it will keep you fit.

18

Eat fish. Sunshine Kitty likes this one!

2

Focus on one thought at a time. “Squirrel!” “Rabbit!” “Comfy, quiet spot to nap.” Haha, the first 2 are for you dog-friends, the last for us felines… You see, when we focus on a task, we aren’t also trying to compose a shopping list, talk on the phone, cook a meal. Relax, dear Humans, one thought at a time!

5

Take at least one daily walk. Get your body moving – it invigorates your mind. And…

6

Enjoy the Great Outdoors. A little fresh air, sunshine, lovely smells; it’s food for the soul, even on hot days.

12

Be curious. I’m here to tell you feline friends, curiosity does NOT kill a cat. But it does spice up life!

13

Be silly sometimes. We cats n dogs do like a good laugh! Especially with our Humans.

19

Make time to groom yourself. I never have to teach my kitty friends about this. It helps you feel good about yourself!

3

Take a daily nap. Ahhhh, I relish my naps. You Humans don’t need to nap as often as we furry friends do. But take 15 minutes from your chaotic busy day to do nothing, close your eyes, whatever it takes to shut out the world. You’ll be amazed at how much more you get done!

7

Seek out shade. It’s fun to relax in the shade, “take it all in”, have a conversation with a friend. Speaking of which…

8

Make lots of friends. Furry friends AND Humans need friends to socialize. If you have trouble socializing with others, is it because you are afraid? Maybe a little practice will help.

14

Play. You’re never too old.

15

20

Be aware of body language. We furry friends are typically masters of this. When you have a sunny attitude, your whole body shows it. If you have a grumpy day, try looking at yourself in a mirror for a few minutes. When you can finally smile at yourself, then you can get on with your day.
